Some pool tables can earn a fair amount and a few bar owners start to think it might be better to have all the earnings and not just 50%, read on...

Advantages

1) All earnings for the bar owner.

Disadvantages

1) A pool table needs to be purchased and that cost can be anything between 1,800 and 2,800 Euros including transport, fitting, a table iron and a table light. A machinists level is recommended to level pool tables properly.

2) It may seem inviting to own your own table and in fact it may be worth it... for a while, especially when the table is new but pool tables do not look after themselves! they need regualr maintaniance to run problem free. The cloth needs cleaned and ironed, certain areas inside need to be cleaned, oiled and some small parts replaced when seen to start to show ware. Not doing these small maintainance tasks is then when the table will start to give problems, if the table has problems it will put customers off using it and therefore cost you money.

3) A Pool table needs regular leveling, if it is not level it will put customers off using it... how many pool table owners do this I wonder!

4) The cloth will need cleaned and ironed regularly, then replaced when worn. A new recover generally costs anything from 220 Euros upwards for a decent cloth. If the cloth is not in good condition it will put customers off playing on the table!

5) The table cloth will need to be marked out, ironed and re-spotted regularly... how many pool table owners do this I wonder!

6) Cues need to be repaired and replaced, as do the balls if any go missing... as do cue tips, cloth spots, springs and any other spare parts in the table when they break.

7) Many bar owners that have bought a pool table in the past generally tend to replace it with one on profit share when they find the upkeep is more involved than initially thought, realising it was maybe not such a good idea to buy their own!

Other things to take into consideration...

There are several well known bars on the coast that over the years thought it a good idea to buy their pool table, many of these tables after only a short time get into a very poor state because they are not looked after, this reflects on their bar, the table take drops and the game of pool suffers... don't let yourself fall into this trap. At the end of the day if you have a pool table on profit share and it is looked after as it should be then you have the better deal, if the company that owns the table doesn't maintain it then you can change them for another company but once you have bought your own, then * you * become the company that maintains "or in most privately owned cases, that doesn't maintain" the table!
Basically, owning your pool table might look good on the surface but in reality having a table on profit share * where the table is looked after properly * is the bar owners best option, this way they can look after their bar and let the table be taken care of by a company that are set up to do that professionally.

If the table is looked after and has regular maintaniance then the play count will be as good as it can be for your bar. Having a pool table on profit share is not simply a case of the table operator calling and taking their half of the money, sadly many operators think it is! The cloth should be in good condition, the table should be cleaned and checked... as should the cues and light so if you are not happy with how the table in your bar is cared for, then maybe the solution is to change the company that supplies and services your pool table for one that takes some interest in what they are doing!

One big problem with pool tables that are owned by the premises is they get run down... quickly. Before someone buys a table for their business they think it is simple, buy the table and put it up then it runs with little care but business owners do not understand the importance of regular cleaning (Inside and out), replacement and lubrication of moving parts before they break, cloth upkeep, cue maintenance etc. before long the take drops (a lot) because of poor upkeep and access to the spares and accessories needed. Now if you own your own table you can avoid these problems, with a regular pool table service plan from us.

If you have your own pool table and would like it regularly serviced then we have plans starting from as little as 12.50 Euros per week. We can take care of the maintenance table owners do not know or think they need to do 'or that they just don't do' to keep the table in tip-top running condition, from oiling parts, replacing worn or weak parts, regular leveling, removing ball trail grime from interior ball runs, recovering bed and cushions, keeping the exterior clean... all this can be included in the service charge ...at last! you can just forget about the pool table care on your privately owned table!

We are one of the very few companies who can professionally recover your pool /billiard table bed and or cushions, we will check for loose cushion rubbers, repair and recover the bed and cushions with green 6811 Pool 'West of England cloth'.
The table of course will be leveled when we recover it!
We will mark out the table for the game that is played on it... and mark it out correctly!

We recover English pool, Snooker, American and Carombola tables for clubs and private homes throughout the south of Spain (and in other areas). We are becoming known as one of the few 'if not only companies' in Spain that can undertake this task properly throughout the range of billiard tables. There are important aspects of recovering a billiard table that many people doing this appear not to know: The cloth needs to be stretched properly, the cloth needs to be fitted properly around the middle pockets (we rarely see this done on any tables) and the cushions need to be covered properly. There is the correct way of doing these things and the reason that these things are not done properly on most tables is because the people doing the recover obviously don't know what they are doing, don't take chances.

Many snooker tables on the coast that we have seen appear to have been recovered by people who appear to never have seen one of them before! The recovering of a snooker table is very differnt than that of a pool table, we are one of the very few snooker table fitters on the coast. We have fitted tables that have been played on by players such as: Jimmy White, Alex Higgens, Tony Knowles, Stephen Hendry, Dennis Taylor, John Parrott etc. etc. etc. (Any spare parts or rubber that need replaced will be extra but we will be checked with you before replacing anything).
